ABOUT KANHA NATIONAL PARK
Kanha national park is situated in the Mandla and Balaghat districts
of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.Kanha national park is also one
of the india's largest and greatest Tiger reserve. Located in the Hallon
and Banjar valleys, the park covers an area of 1945 sq kms.Legends tell
that picturesque and scenic beauty of Kanha national park was the inspiration
behind Rudyard Kipling's famous Jungle book.Kanha national park came into
existence in 1955 and now it is has become a great preservation reserve
for the animals. Many endangered species have also been saved here.Kanha
national park is also crowned with status of being the first project tiger
reserve in India created in 1976.
Covered with lush sal and dense bamboo forests, thick grasslands,grassy
meadows and ravines, the topography of Kanha has its own speciallarity.
It has horse-shoe shaped valley and the entire forest is covered with
spurs of Mekal.The Surpan river flows through the rocky paths of the forest
and covers the grasslands over the plateaus.
MAJOR WILDLIFE ATRACTION OF KANHA NATIONAL PARK
kANHA National Park is known as the "country of tigers".There
are more than 100 species of tigers in Kanha. Kanha national park is homeland
for both predator and prey.The population of tigers are highest in the
park.Other major wildlife attaction includes gaur, wild dogs, chousingha,
nilgai, sloth bear,sambar, chital, hard-ground barasingha,barkind deer,
leopard, hyena and jungle cat.
Kanha national park is home to many birds such as Racket-tailed drongo,
Magpie robbin,egrets, oriols, king fishers, peacock, wood peckers, finches,
owls, eagles, spotted parakeets, rock pigeons, green pigeons, cuckoos,patridges,
jungle fowl,honey buzzard, crested hawk, lesser kestrel, pea fowl and
fly catchers. Some migratory birds such as common pochard, lesser whistling
teal and black stork are also seen in Kanha national park.

Kanha national park boasts a kanha museum where visitors can understand
the specific features and activities of the park. Another most intersting
feature of the park is the bounty"Bamni Dadar"popularly known
as the sunset point that offers a most scenic and facinating view of the
sunset.From this point the sunset view is awesome and overwhelming.

By road: kanha national park is connected by road with Jabalpur(175kms),
khajuraho(445kms) and Nagpur(266kms).
